In Germany bow-ties are popularly known as a “fly“. Our bow-ties are mostly self-tie, a virtue, which is highly admired by passionate bow-tie wearers but rarely found nowadays. In Austria, the bow-ties are called “Mascherl“, the Swiss say “tie“. This should not be confused with the word tie used in Germany as a synonym for a tie. The difference is a bow-tie still have to be bound, but is available as both – a bound item and still binding model. Any Questions?
